Yesterday I stopped by the post office to mail and few letter and HOLY CANOLIES people… there were 3 packages for me to pick up. At first I was like, wait, what? I haven’t ordered anything lately… and then I noticed the address.

Ahhh…The flamingo sanctuary. Of course.

Man you guys are fast. LOL. 😉

Sarah sent in a pair of flamingo plant stakes. I set them in with the pea plants for a little splash of color.

And the bare bottomed garden gnome from Tracey? Nothing says I am a super classy person, please stop and chat a bit, like a plastic gnome with it’s bum exposed in your garden. 😉

And then there was that giant package.

Full of plastic livestock!!

Have I ever told you how much Lucy LOVES to open packages?

What’s that? You need a little CPR? No problem my new flamingo friend.

It’s MINE!!!! All mine! These flamingos were sent for me not for you mom.

Holy canolies! Rosemarie sent in an entire flock {12 flamingos!!!} for the yard.

I thought it would be best to play a little game of hide and seek. You know, for all the people walking by. After all, slow and steady wins the race right? I wouldn’t want to stick them all in the front yard and make it look obvious or anything. Weaving the flamingos here and there between the hedges and plants is more artistic. Don’t you think?

This is going to be fun.

How Many Times a Week Do You Shower?

Treehugger recently posted an article about showers that was fascinating!! It compared how often American’s shower compared to other countries. The answer was kind of surprising. While we do shower quite a bit, lots of other countries have us beat. Columbia, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Spain, the Middle East, France and India all out shower us {not surprisingly, most of them are considerably warmer climates}. Some countries opt instead for sponge baths and/or full submersion baths {likely that is what is more readily available?}

The article suggested that we are kind of newly obsessed with cleanliness and stripping ourselves of our natural smells {with modern soaps, deodorant, mouthwash, etc. that have only been around for about 100 years} And it’s true, if you think back to maybe 100 years ago, I am sure we did shower/bathe less, simply because of the difficulty of heating water for bathing, but it turns out that most “refined” historical cultures {The Romans, Ancient Greeks…even the Babylonians all revered bathing and cleanliness. The Egyptians bathed very frequently, and added make-up to boot}. As our quest to jump on the hygiene super highway has grown, we’ve invented water heaters, indoor plumbing, etc., and the ease of washing the day off has become easier–and the frequency has almost undoubtedly gone up.

So how often do YOU shower? Me? Usually 6 days out of 7 every week {I like to allow for a lazy day :)}.

Things are starting to get a little crazy around here… and I’ll be sharing more on that in a little bit. 😉

My goal today is to get a few seedling planted, make a batch of biscotti, and then do some touch up painting in the office. The workers will be back tomorrow {the electricians I think} and so I want to make the most of today while I have a little peace and quiet.

Blueberry Crumb Bars … Someone Please Hide These

Go make these bars right now. I mean, don’t make these bars. I mean do, but be warned you will eat so many it’ll hurt. I seriously had to have the HH hide them. I’m not kidding. I shouldn’t be surprised that these blueberry crumb bars are so amazing. Deb has the BEST dessert recipes!

When I saw the recipe, I knew I wanted to make them immediately, but I didn’t have all the ingredients on hand. So I made a few changes, and they turned out so good!!

Ingredients

1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup cold unsalted butter {2 sticks}
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons lemon juice
4 cups frozen blueberries
1/2 cup white sugar
4 teaspoons tapioca pearls

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 F. Grease a 9×13 baking dish and set aside.

Combine 1 cup sugar, 3 cups flour, salt and baking powder in a medium mixing bowl. Use a fork or pastry cutter to blend in the butter and egg until dough is crumbly. Press half of the dough into the prepared pan.

In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, tapioca pearls and lemon juice. Carefully fold in the blueberries. Sprinkle the blueberry mixture evenly over crust. Crumble the remaining dough on top.

Bake for 50 minutes, or until top is golden brown. Let cool completely before cutting. Enjoy!
