Money Saving Tip: Make Bar Soap Last Longer

You know the remnants of your bar soap, the ones that are too small to keep from sliding out of your hand but too big to toss without feeling wasteful? Well I have a perfect little tip so you can combine them and go on your merry washing way.

Depending on the size of the bar, you can do one of two things. First, if it’s just a sliver, you can wet the new bar, set the old bar on top and press them together. Leave them there until they dry and they should seal right up creating a new bar.

If your older bar is a bit larger, you might need to take a fork and run some parallel groves on both the old and new bar. Wet the grooves in the new bar and line the groves of both bars up and press together. Let dry and Wallah! New and old bars combined make a new and improved bar!

After last weeks epic Costco shopping trip, I nearly made it an entire week without going shopping. The Girl wanted to make homemade granola {I’ll post the recipe tomorrow} and we were out of honey so we stopped by and picked up 3 little bears.

Since I started my 30 day challenge, I feel like I haven’t done as much cooking as I would normally do. I’ve relied on freezer meals, and the kids making their own dinners way too many times this past month and let me tell you Bob, I’m ready to start cooking and trying new recipes again.

Did you have a Father’s Day BBQ?

How many days were you eating leftovers for? My peeps had leftover chicken, steak and burgers {with all the fixing’s} for three days straight.

I did manage to make them chicken stir fry and fried rice one night though. 🙂

We also harvested radishes and romaine lettuce from the garden. The Girl made chicken Caesar salad for everyone {who wasn’t eating out of a packet}.

And take a look at those chocolate chip cookies she made. Aren’t they beautiful? Couldn’t you just eat the entire plate of home baked goodness?

Well hello there.

How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting? We just hung around the house and IT WAS AWESOME. I love lazy weekends!!!

Lucy the puggle dog got in her fair share of relaxing time as well and while I was out walking last night I found a secret blackberry patch not too far from our neighborhood. The berries look like they’ll be ready to pick in another 2 weeks and I am keeping my fingers crossed no one else knows about it. 😉

Mavis Butterfield | Backyard Garden Plot Pictures 6/28/15

It’s been a busy week in the garden with lot’s of small projects.

I spent some time pruning and tying back tomato plants…

Weeding the squash patch…

And working on edging and digging up the grass behind the garden boxes. I still have a long way to go before I can go crazy and plant more perennial flowers, but I’m getting there.

The row of raspberries I transplanted a few weeks ago are doing great, especially with all this hot weather we’ve been having lately.

The patty pan squash should be ready to pick later this week.

And the cabbage, strawberry, chard and beets are coming along nicely as well.

The side yard looks SO MUCH BETTER than it did when we moved in. Neat and tidy, just the way I like it. In the fall I’ll plant an ornamental tree of some kind to the left of the blueberry bushes.

Growing lettuce in the front yard is cool!

Before we bought our house last fall, I told the HH the weird leaning pine tree had to go. It does absolutely nothing but drop oodles of pine needles and giant pine cones every week. I wrote a letter to the snoopervising committee this asking to remove it and replace it with a dogwood or flowering cherry tree. We’ll see what happens.

I am enjoying the garden {and projects} more and more each day now that the fence is up and the puggle princess and I have more privacy. We still get the occasional lookey loo trying to talk to us while we work in the back… but since the fence has been installed, it’s much more manageable.

Keep calm and garden on, right?
